What “Think Pink” Really Means at City & County Credit Union

You've probably seen it around. The pink, the taglines, "Think Pink" showing up on signs, posts, and promos. It stands out. It's different. But what does it actually mean, especially when it comes to your money?

At City & County Credit Union, Think Pink isn't a color or a campaign. It's a promise about how we do banking. Rates and fees that work in your favor. A team that answers to you instead of shareholders. A structure that's kept over 62,000 members banking with us since 1928.

If you've ever wondered what member-owned banking really means, or why a credit union might be the better fit, this is the behind-the-scenes look at the philosophy driving everything we do, and how it benefits you.

The Story Behind Think Pink

Banking has a reputation for feeling cold and confusing, full of fine print, hidden fees, and one-size-fits-all products that don't quite fit real life.

CCCU started as the opposite. In February 1928, founder C.J. McGlogan and 201 Saint Paul and Ramsey County employees pooled together $4,177 because no one else was building anything for city and county workers. (It's also why we're called City & County.)

Nearly a century later, that same idea now serves more than 62,000 members — whether you're a busy parent stretching a budget, a professional planning for retirement, or a teenager earning a first paycheck.

Think Pink is our name for that idea. It means clearing away the fine print and the jargon, and treating you like a neighbor instead of an account number. It's a standard we hold ourselves to in every interaction.

What Is Member-Owned Banking?

Member-owned banking means the people who bank here are the owners. Open an account, and you become a part-owner with one vote in how the credit union runs — the same vote as anyone else, big balance or small.

Traditional banks work differently. They answer to shareholders chasing bigger returns every quarter, which tends to show up as extra fees, steeper rates, and a "take it or leave it" menu of products. CCCU answers to members instead.

That's the real credit union vs. bank difference: who the institution is built to serve.

What Member Ownership Looks Like Day to Day

Here's where you'll feel it:

Better rates because you own the place

Because we're not-for-profit, we're not lining corporate pockets — we're passing the savings straight to you. You pay less on loans and earn more on savings than you would at a big bank.

Our team works for members, not shareholders

Ever feel like a financial institution is pushing a product you didn't ask for just to hit a sales quota? At CCCU, our team lives in the same communities as our members, with a real stake in getting things right for you.

We don't speak banking jargon — we speak your language, with clear, honest advice you can trust.

A local legacy of putting people first

We aren't a far-away national conglomerate or a faceless app. We keep your deposits close to home, funding car and home loans for your neighbors, and act as a force for good right here in Minnesota.
