Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Are there any out-of-pocket fees I need to pay when applying for a CCCU student loan?

No, our private education line of credit has no origination or application fees. Plus, there are no prepayment penalties if you decide to pay off your loan early.

Who is eligible for a CCCU undergraduate student loan?

To qualify, you must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident, meet the age of majority requirements in your state, be enrolled at least half-time in a degree-granting program, and meet our standard underwriting criteria.

You must also meet City & County Credit Union’s membership eligibility

What's the difference between the "line of credit amount" and "loan amount" on the application?

The line of credit amount is the maximum you can borrow based on your school's cost of attendance and your remaining years of study. The loan amount is the specific amount you need to borrow for the upcoming term. You can request additional funds from your line of credit for future terms.

Is a co-borrower required for a CCCU student loan?

While a co-borrower is not mandatory, applying with a creditworthy co-borrower may improve your chances of approval and potentially qualify you for a lower interest rate.

How long does the process take from loan request to disbursement?

During peak season (July-September), please allow 35-40 business days from submitting your completed loan documents. In non-peak times, the process typically takes 10-15 business days. Keep in mind that your school has the final say on disbursement dates and amounts.

“I established my CCCU account in 2014 as a total newcomer to St. Paul, and it has supported me through so many life phases in the 10 years since! From education and employment to homeownership and now new parenthood, my relationship with CCCU has been a continuous symbol of independence and security.”
